Submission Guidelines
Photos & Images (Magazine)
All photographs and CDs submitted to Firehouse® should be clearly labeled with your name and address. When labeling prints, please do not write directly on the back of the print, but rather on a piece of tape or a label, which should then be affixed to the back of the print. Please print on the envelope which department your submission should go to, i.e. Hot Shots or Fire Fronts. Firehouse® accepts all sizes of slides, prints and digital images. Negatives, either black and-white or color, cannot be accepted and it is suggested that you always safeguard your original work by sending duplicates.
Due to the large volume of photographic material received, Firehouse® cannot guarantee return of submissions. To make returns possible, all photos should be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope. We suggest that you do not send original photographs or slides or make copies for yourself.
High-resolution digital images, color slides and photos are the only ones considered for our "Hot Shots" or "Fire Fronts" departments. If they are suitable, they may also be considered for feature stories or covers. They should not be more than three to four months old. The most current photographs always receive priority. Since "Fire Fronts" is a column that reports on recent emergency incidents, these photos should be submitted to us within two weeks of the incident. This will ensure that the material is current enough for consideration. Photos that are suitable for a scheduled story may be used to illustrate the writer's work.
All photographs must be accompanied by a description of the incident. All photos should be sent with a paragraph or two describing the fire. If you are able to include a newspaper clipping, it will be greatly appreciated. Information should include the date of the incident, city or town and state, kind of structure, nature and extent of the fire as well as the number of personnel and apparatus responding.
We will try to reach a decision on your work as quickly as possible. We may hold prints or slides for up to 90 days. If you do not wish us to keep your material for this length of time, please let us know. Once a decision is made, we may hold the material longer in order to print it when space is available.
Firehouse® pays a small fee for the first-time rights of photographic material published in the magazine. It is understood that no other publication in the same or similar industry will receive the same submission. All payment is made upon publication. Firehouse reserves the right to use photography that will appear in an issue for its own promotional use.
To ensure prompt payment, please include your social security number and mailing address with all submissions. All submissions must also include your current phone number and/or e-mail address.
