Woonsocket, RI, firefighters battle a three-alarm blaze in a three-story apartment
house on May 18, 2008. Heavy fire tore through the third floor and attic. Firefighters were ordered to evacuate the building due to the intense fire conditions. Shortly after firefighters were evacuated, the roof collapsed on all four sides and into the building.
Dedication
This month's Firehouse is dedicated to Firefighter Rufus E. Brinson Jr., 50, of the Reelsboro Fire Department in New Bern, NC; Second Assistant Chief Colin Gene Thomas, 51, of the Verona Volunteer Fire Department in Jacksonville, NC; Firefighter Kevin Patrick Pryor, 31, of the Newport Beach, CA, Fire Department; and Fire Chief George E. Crocker, 32, of the Pine Level, NC, Volunteer Fire Department, who died in the line of duty, June 2008; and to FDNY Lieutenant (ret.) Chris Waters, charter member of FDNY Hazmat 1 and former chair of the Hazardous Materials Program at the National Fire Academy, who died in September 2008 (see page 48).
